IMPORTANT SAFETY DO’s AND DON’Ts

> DO's…

  • Reassure children who are injured, frightened or lost.
  • Provide or assist in obtaining medical attention for those who require it.
  • KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS! Do not act outside of your certification.
  • Carry your first-aid kit to all games and practices.
  • When assisting an injured person on the playing field:
    • LOOK for signs of injury
      (active bleeding, bruising, swelling, deformed extremity etc.)
    • LISTEN to the injured person describe what happened and what hurts (if conscious.)  Before questioning, you may have to calm the person, if excited, in order to obtain information required to obtain advanced medical attention.
  • Have your players’ Medical Clearance Forms with you at all games and practices.
  • Make arrangements to have a cellular phone available at all games or practices.
    (i.e. CR-rear field, Sunshine Acres, Silo Field)
  • Know to call 911 in an emergency situation.
  • Make safety your priority.

> DON'Ts...

  • Don't administer any medications.
  • Don't provide any food of beverages to the injured person.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help if you are not sure of the proper procedures (i.e. CPR, icing, etc)
  • Don't transport injured person in a personal vehicle.
  • Don't leave an unattended child at a practice or game.
  • Don't hesitate to report any present or potential safety hazard to the Director of Safety immediately.
  • Don't under react. If in doubt call a professional medical personnel (EMT) and allow them to evaluate the injured person.

  • What to report:
An incident that causes any player, manager, coach, umpire, or volunteer to receive medical treatment and/or first-aid must be reported to the Director of Safety. This includes even passive treatments such as the evaluation and diagnosis of the extent of the injury or periods of rest.
  • When to report:
All such incidents described above must be reported to the Director of Safety or Player Agent within 24 hours of the incident.

  • How to make a report:
Under most circumstances a phone conversation is all that is necessary.  At a minimum the following information must be provided -
  1. Name and phone number of the injured individual
  2. The date, time and location of the incident
  3. A description of the incident (details of)
  4. A preliminary estimate on the extent of the injury
  5. The name and phone number of the person reporting the incident
